<< Wire(Coiled Wire) Photoshop Tutorial
Wire Photoshop Tutorial
By Xi Lin

If there is one thing I know...it is that wires are a bitch to make in Photoshop. Well, not really, just certain wires. The ones below are great for beginners as I'll be showing you how to create a copper wire coated in plastic.

Step 1: Only Step You Have

Open up photoshop and open a new document and enter the following values and click ok.

Use a pen tool and create a coil like shape, or use the image below to trace.

Then use the convert point tool and smooth out the wire a bit.

Right click the wire layer and rasterize.

Ctrl+click on your wire layer and then click over to channels, create a new alpha layer and fill it with white. Keeping the selection, gaussian blur it with white by 10, by 5, then by 3, and 1. Deselect, then gaussian blur lastly by 3.

Go back to the layers, duplicate the original and erase the tips a little.

Goto filter >> render >> lighting effects and use the following values. Yours may need to vary slightly.

Goto layer >> layer style >> bevel and emboss and use the following option.

GO down to the original wire layer. Ctrl+click the layer, contract selection by 2, invert and delete. Use the same lighting effects and then gOto layer >> layer style >> bevel and emboss and use the following option.

Add a drop shadow to the original layer as well.

Time to add some color to the duplicated wire, goto image >> adjustments >> hue and saturation and enter the following values.

Do the same for the original layer only with these values.

and Voila!
